AAEI 1 CURRICULUM

The Asian Academy for Electoral Integrity is a peer-to-peer learning program aimed at cultivating young advocates and reformers to take part in pushing for the enhancement of electoral democracy in Asia.

The Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL), together with the National Democratic Institute (NDI), launched the first AAEI program in 2023.

Sixteen young and emerging election observers and democracy advocates from 11 countries in Asia took part in interactive sessions, group exercises lighting talks and hands-on exercises from 9-13 December 2023 in Kathmandu, Nepal. AAEI coincided with the sixth Asian Electoral Stakeholder Forum where the fellows were given the chance to participate and engage with key electoral stakeholders in Asia and beyond.

The program was designed to:

Throughout the five-day learning program, the fellows learned about the legal framework and electoral system, independence of election management bodies (EMBs), persistent issues on transparency and inclusiveness of election, open election data, campaign finance and abuse of state resources during elections, disinformation, election observation innovations and practical approaches on how to pursue electoral reforms.

ANFREL and NDI are making these sessions public and offer these session videos and materials as resources for those interested in learning more about elections, election observation, and advocating for free, fair and democratic elections.
