Prior to the conduct of the inaugural Asian Academy for Electoral Integrity (AAEI), ANFREL conducted a needs assessment survey to indentify pertinent areas of the electoral process and election observation that the program should focus on.

ANFREL received 24 applications from 21 organizations across 12 countries in Asia to participate in AAEI. The applicants were invited for interviews where 16 participants were selected hailing form 11 countries in Asia. Further consultations with the AAEI fellows helped shape the overall design of the program.

AAEI is made possible thanks to the generous support from the National Democratic Institute (NDI).

NDI is a non-profit, non-partisan, non-governmental organization that works in partnership around the world to strengthen and safeguard democratic institutions, processes, norms and values to secure a better quality of life for all.
